Protein, protein and more protein....

Well, last night I went to see the midwife for my monthly checkup... My blood pressure was lower than the last two times, so she told me that I have GOT to eat a lot more protein to bring it up. So last night Hubby and I went to Walmart and we got some protein bars and steaks. For breakfast I had a bar with 31 grams of protein and for lunch we are having steak and scalloped taters! YUM! I have been feeling much better today.

Now, for the good news....We heard Sweet Pea's heartbeat going strong as ever and a few swift kicks at the doppler. The midwife said this baby seems VERY active, and I agree! I have already felt quite a bit of movement... I get more excited about our baby every day and can't wait to meet him/her!

We love you, Sweet Pea!

  1. You'll probably find that the SOURCE of protein is also important, not just the gram count - meaning - you're probably gonna have to eat a lot more meat than you'd like....

Don't suppose you could get your hands on some farm fresh eggs??

  2. I know, I am trying to eat a lot more meat, which for me is hard, but I see the importance of it...

Farm fresh eggs would be good, though I'm not a big egg eater, either...

  3. I miss the kicking and moving. Such a precious time with your baby. And soon Taylor will be enjoying those too. As long as doesn't tell you roll over in the middle of the night because the baby is keeping him awake.. :o)

  4. oh, I've been there!! Just was there... Still am there - I find I still need lots of protein for while I'm nursing. They say that pregnant women have to eat for two, but I never really felt like that. I sure do now though!!
Anyways, you can get a big container of Whey Protein at walmart (like, body builder stuff) that's not bad if you mix it in some pudding. That's what I did at the end when my midwife suggested I get about 2x the amount she normally recommended...

Anyways, my midwife says meat protein is very important, although she told me 'still eat peanut butter and eggs and beans' :)

You can get a big bag of chicken patties at Sam's and cook one every day to eat with a meal, or as a snack, and it's very easy.

    Who is your midwife, btw?

Anyways, keep up with your diet because it will help you feel SOOO much better, and it could help you avoid a lot of complications further in pregnancy :)

God bless you, hope you're feeling well,
    Lana H.

  5. Hi Lana! I have been a lurker on your blog for a while! Your little guy is so cute!

Yes, I have heard that you need to eat even more when you are nursing then when you are pregnant... I don't know how I am going to manage that! The chicken patties is a good idea. As long as they aren't to high on the carbs...I am really hoping for a small baby!

My midwife is Debbie Disch. We really like her, and I am thankful for such a good midwife so close!!

Thanks for taking the time to comment!
